Introduction
The first international conference on Structural Dynamics & Vibrations is being held from 11th to 13th August, 2014 at Institute of Space Technology Islamabad. Vibrations have always been with us since the creation of this earth. Holy Quran revealed 1400 years ago: “And we have poked heavy mountains into the earth to stabilize it, lest it should incline from (its axis of rotation) or run away (from its orbit) taking you along with itself”. The awareness of significance of vibrations in our lives and knowledge to grasp and understand this phenomenon has increased tremendously with rapid technological development and industrialization which the world has witnessed in last century. In the new millennium, mankind will be confronted with new problems and new solutions need to be addressed. Earthquakes have devastated the Asian region and have not spared even developed countries like Japan. It shows that man is still a long way from overcoming forces of nature. Therefore, it is imperative to make use of new materials and technological development to build structures and machines that can withstand earthquake. It is essential that scientists and engineers in one part of the world become aware of the development taking at other parts of the world and work in tandem-rather than working in isolated pockets. In order to fulfill the need IST is well motivated to hold ICSDV after every two years. It will not only provide a platform for the scientists and engineers from different areas of research to share their knowledge but it will also help to open new domains through personal interactions and future joint collaborative research in this field.
