What is the application process?

The application process involves filling out an online application form, uploading required documents, and paying the application processing fee.

How many seats are for each program?

IST provides furnished hostel facility for boys and girls.
Engineering Programs:
Aerospace Engineering: 100 - Avionics Engineering: 80 – Eletcrical Engineering: 100 – Mechanical Engineering: 120 – Materials Science & Engineering: 80
Computing Programs:
Computer Science: 100 – Artificial Intelligence: 50 – Data Science: 50
Non-Engineering (Science) Programs:
Space Science: 50 – Physics: 40 – Math: 50


What is duration of study for each Program?

The study duration of each program is 04 years (08 semesters).


How many times admissions are announced for Engineering, Non-Engineering & Computing Programs in a year?

Admissions for BS programs are announced once in a year i.e. in March/ April.


Does an applicant can apply for all engineering, computing & science programs?

Yes.


What is the eligibility criteria, merit determination criteria & fee structure for BS programs?


Which entry test is required to apply for BS engineering programs?

IST doesn’t conduct its own entry test. Please use the below link for details:

I have already appeared for entry test but I do not receive result card. What should I do?

Please get a print of your result card from website of testing authority and upload with online application form


Which entry test is required to apply for BS computing & non-engineering programs?

No entry test is required to apply for computing & non-engineering programs.

Does the institute have affiliation with any university/ institution?

IST is a federally chartered, HEC recognized and PEC accredited, degree awarding university therefore it does not require affiliation with any other university/ institution. Please use the below link for details: https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/universities/pages/recognised.aspx

Does Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) recognize the Institute?

IST has been awarded accreditation for its various undergraduate engineering programs at Level-II by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), making them fully compliant with the Washington Accord. Engineering graduates obtaining a degree under this category of HEIs are considered at par with world class professionals in the field, and do not require any further evaluation of their degrees for professional jobs or higher education abroad.

Does National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) recognize the Institute?

All Computing programs offered by the institute are duly approved/ accredited by the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).

What is the medium of teaching/ instructions/ examination/ extracurricular activities at IST?

All educational and extracurricular activities such as “Class Lectures, Oral and Written Examinations, Quizzes, Assignments, Seminars, Conferences, Notifications etc” at Institute of Space Technology (IST) Islamabad take place in English Language. Therefore, IST graduates may not face any difficulty in performing job/ pursuing higher education at any institution/ university/ organization around the globe where the medium of communication/ teaching/ instructions/ examination is English.

Does IST have reserved seats for overseas/ dual nationality holder applicants?

There are no reserve seats for overseas/ dual nationality holder applicants. All admissions in IST are based on transparent open merit basis.

Does IST have reserved seats for DAE applicants?

There are no reserved seats for Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) applicants. However, DAE holders can apply on open merit, competing with FSc Pre-Engineering and ICS students.

Does IST allow result awaiting DAE applicants to apply for admission in IST?

Result awaiting DAE applicants are not eligible to apply for admission in IST.


Does IST allow pre-medical applicants to apply for admission in BS engineering & science programs?

Only those pre-medical candidates are allowed to apply for admission in BS engineering & science programs who have already passed additional math papers or appeared for additional math papers and waiting for result announcement.

Does IST allow pre-medical students to apply for admission in BS computing programs?

Yes, pre-medical students can apply for computing programs which includes Computer Science, Artificial intelligence & Data Science.

Does the institute provide hostel facility?

IST provides furnished hostel facility for boys and girls within campus depending upon the avaialibility of seats.

What is the lowest merit of last years for BS programs?

Lowest merit for each program has remained different every year. Therefore, apply online irrespective of lowest merits of last years.

What are the Sponsorships/ Scholarships are offered by IST for BS students?

Does IST have enough qualified faculty?

Yes, IST has enough highly qualified and experienced faculty in the respective areas.

Does IST have proper lab facilities?

IST is proud to maintain well-equipped laboratories that fully support our academic programs. Additionally, we have established specialized laboratories to equip students with technical proficiency and expertise in practical equipment handling, thereby ensuring their readiness for real-world challenges

Does IST have a library?

Yes, IST has a resourceful library with sufficient current editions of books, reference material to support the programs, which is constantly updated. Library is also subscribing more than 14 periodicals and online professional publications.

What are the prospects of higher education?

The IST programs are accredited nationally and internationally and the student shall have no difficulty in getting admissions abroad.

What is the System of Education at IST?

IST follows the semester system. Each program is of eight semesters and each semester is of eighteen weeks duration. There will be two semesters in each year.

Is it mandatory for students of O-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification to obtain equivalence certificate from IBCC before the closing date to apply for admission in IST?

Yes, it is a mandatory requirement for students of O-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification to obtain equivalence certificate from IBCC and upload with online application form before the closing date to apply for admission in IST.

Is it mandatory for students of A-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification to obtain equivalence certificate from IBCC before the closing date of application to apply for admission in IST?

Yes, it is mandatory requirement if an applicant have passed/ completed A-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification. In other case, such students are required to apply for equivalence certificate immediately after the completion/ announcement of results of A-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification from concerned boards.

How students can apply for equivalence certificate in current environment?

IBCC has introduced an online system to apply for equivalence certificate. Email address/ contact numbers are also mentioned on IBCC website to obtain desired/ relevant information. Please visit IBCC website https://www.ibcc.edu.pk and apply online for equivalence certificates of O-Level/ A-Level/ equivalent foreign qualification.

How much time is given to new BS students for the submission of final FSC result card/ equivalent certificate if it is not available at the time of submission of online admission form?

It is mandatory for all BS students to submit the final FSC result card/ IBCC equivalent certificate on registration day. In case of delay in the announcement of results from concerned board, students are required to submit the final FSC result card/ IBCC equivalent certificate within two weeks after the announcements of results from concerned boards otherwise their admission will be cancelled.

What if student of FSC/ A-Level/ equivalent level foreign qualification comes to know after the announcement of result that he/ she could not meet the eligibility requirements of IST?

Admission of such students will be cancelled. It is the responsibility of such students to immediately inform Admissions Office so that their admission can be cancelled and full fee can be refunded. Disciplinary action can be initiated in case of delay or hiding the result for longer time from IST. In such case, fee will be refunded as per IST fee refund policy.

Is it mandatory to deposit application processing fee?

Yes, it is mandatory to deposit application processing fee in any online branch of HBL otherwise your application will not be processed/considered for admission in IST. Application processing fee is non-refundable in any case.


How it will be confirmed that whether my application processing fee has been received at IST? Or I have to send copy of Paid Chillan form to IST.

Nothing is required to send IST. Candidates are required to provide payment details and upload challan forms/ transaction slip with online admission form. Your fee status will be automatically updated on your application form within next 4 to 5 working days after deposit of application processing fee in any online branch of HBL. You can log-in and check the status.

Can I deposit application processing fee through online bank transfer?

It is strongly recommended to deposit your application processing fee through bank challan available at online admission form.

What should I do if I have paid application processing but my fee status is not updated on online application form?

You are required to email scan copy of paid challan form at “admissions@ist.edu.pk” before the closing date to apply for admission in IST.

Is it mandatory to attach the documents with online application form?

Yes, it is mandatory to attach the desired documents with your online application form otherwise your application will not be processed/considered for admission in IST.

I have lost one of the documents which are required to attach with online application form. What should I do?

Apply for duplicate copy from concerned board. Meanwhile you can download your result card from website of concerned board and attached with your online application form.


I have lost my FSC (Part-1) result card but I have FSC (part-1 + part 2 combined) final result card. What should I do?

Please upload FSC final result card with your online application form.

What I have to mention in admission form if my guardian don’t have (National Tax Number) NTN?

Mention NTN number of your guardian, if available, otherwise leave that cell empty.

What does it mean by Guardian?

A guardian is a person who is looking after you in terms of taking your care, paying your educational expenses etc.


My aggregate score in 1st year is less than 60%. Can I apply for admission in IST?

If you are sure that you will be able to improve your score after FSC, as per eligibility criteria mentioned on IST website for respective program, then you may apply for admission in IST based on your score in FSC (Part-1).


I have completed FSC/ ICS. Can I mention the overall score of FSC or my merit will be determined on the basis of overall FSC/ ICS marks?

You are required to mention the score of FSC/ ICS (Part-1) where required because as per merit determination criteria, merit will be determined based on the marks obtained in FSC/ ICS (Part-1).

When my application will be processed?

If you have deposited application processing fee then please wait. Your application will be processed soon.

When and where merit lists are displayed?

Merit lists are posted on IST website within one week after the closing date to apply for admission in IST.

Is it required to send hard copy of online application form/ Challan Form or documents to IST?

You are required to upload desired documents with your online admission form. Do not send application form or any other document to IST.

What is the last date to deposit application processing fee?

Last date to deposit application processing fee is same as closing date to apply for admission in IST.

What have to mention by O-Level or A-Level students on online application form where Reference Number is required?

Reference Number is mentioned just below the line where obtained marks by the student are mentioned on equivalence certificate.

What have to mention by O-Level or A-Level students on online application form where Serial Number is required?

Serial Number is given on top right corner of equivalence certificate.

What have to mention by FSC students on online application form where Registration Number is required?

FSC students are required to mention registration number issued by concerned board.

Can I edit information in my online application form after submission?

Yes, you can edit/update your online application form up to closing date to apply for admission in IST by using your log-in details. In the same way, you can also upload or replace existing documents which are attached with your online application form. When you will upload new document, the previous one will be deleted automatically.

Can I access my online admission form on mobile?

Yes, you can access/ edit your online admission form through mobile. However, for better experience, please use desktop computer to access/ edit the information in your online admission form.

I have error in my email address or CNIC number. How I can rectify it?

You are required to send an email at “admissions@ist.edu.pk” highlighting the problem which you are facing while creating login or accessing your online application form.

I have completed my FSc (pre-medical) and appearing/appeared for additional math paper. Can I apply for admission to Engineering programs?

Yes, you can apply for admission to Engineering programs in IST based on your score in FSc pre-medical (part-1).
