Hands on Training on Scanning Electron Microscopy

In many academic and research organizations, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is a vital characterization tool for advancement in research. Be it the research in Materials Science, Biomedical Application or Electronics, maximal efficiency from SEM is indispensable. To cater this demand, Materials Science & Engineering Department at IST is organizing a workshop to provide hands on training on SEM.

The 3 day extensive workshop will impart knowledge to understand the construction of microscope, its main subsystems: electron beam generation, electro-magnetic lenses, vacuum system and different modes of image formation.

About the speakers:
The speakers and trainers for the workshop encompass an experience of more than 20 years in the field of Materials Science and Engineering and include the following:

  • Prof Ibrahim Qazi, PhD, University of Sheffield. Has more than 20 years of experience in the field. Research activities include mainly microwave and piezoelectric materials.
  • Prof Syed Wilayat Husain, PhD University of Connecticut.  Has more than 35 years of experience in failure analyses and alloy development.
  • Prof Anjum Tauqir, PhD University of Connecticut. Has diversified experience of more than 3 decades in renowned educational and research institutions of Pakistan, USA and Russia on a spectrum of materials
Schedule: January 29-31, 2018(0900-1600hrs)
Venue: Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad.
